Pixel-Width Title Checker

Google truncates titles by pixel width, not character count. Check your title's exact pixel width.

Mobile

Why pixels not chars: "iiiiiiiii" takes a fraction of the room "WWWWWWWWW" does. Google's truncation logic is pixel-based. Counting characters consistently understates titles with wide letters (W, M, capitals) and overstates titles full of narrow letters (i, l, commas). For Brand- and capital-heavy titles, even 55 chars can truncate.

About this tool

Character counts are a rough proxy. Google truncates at ~600px desktop / ~360px mobile, meaning 'iiii' takes less room than 'WWWW'. This tool renders your title in the same font (Arial 18px) Google uses and shows the precise pixel width.

Why character counters miss titles that truncate

Brand- and proper-noun-heavy titles often truncate in SERP even when they're under the standard 60-character guideline, because capital letters and wide characters (W, M, B) take more pixels than lowercase narrow letters (i, l, t). The pixel measure is the truth — character count is a proxy.

Frequently asked questions

Why measure pixels instead of characters? +

'iiiiiiiii' takes about a third of the pixel width of 'WWWWWWWWW' in the font Google renders titles in (Arial). Character counts assume average width, capital-heavy or punctuation-heavy titles routinely truncate even when under 60 characters.

Is Arial 18px really what Google uses? +

Roughly yes. Google's desktop SERP renders titles in 'arial,sans-serif' at ~18-20px (varies slightly by experiment). 600px is the practical truncation threshold. Mobile is ~16px and ~360px.

What if my title exceeds the pixel limit? +

Google truncates with an ellipsis. The cut-off content doesn't count for ranking but it does cost CTR, shoppers see less of your value prop. Rewrite to fit, or accept truncation if the suffix is brand-name only.
