Why landed cost matters

Many founders price off factory unit cost. By the time inventory lands in your warehouse it's 25-60% more expensive than the factory invoice. Plan margin off landed cost, not invoice cost.

About this tool

Landed cost = the true unit cost once your inventory lands in your warehouse. Calculates duty (by HS code rate), freight allocation per unit, insurance, broker handling and customs entry fees.

Why landed cost is the only cost that matters

Many D2C founders price products off the factory unit cost. By the time inventory lands in your warehouse, it's typically 25-60% more expensive once freight, customs duty, insurance, broker fees and handling are added. Margin math built on the factory invoice always under-states actual cost — leading to chronic under-pricing or under-budgeting for ad spend.

Finding your HS code and duty rate

Every product has a Harmonized System (HS) code that determines the duty rate at import. For US imports, use the USITC tariff database. For UK, use HMRC's Trade Tariff. Get the code wrong and you'll either overpay duty or face penalties on audit. Most freight forwarders will do classification as part of their service.
